Kin for Fun?
We've seen twice now (on DW) people speaking in a hostile manner towrads kin and "kin for fun" (we've never heard this term before). The idea is apparently people saying they're kin to a character because they very much relate to them, which... we think is relatively harmless. There seems to be discourse around how it's "diluting the term" and "making the rest of (us) look like we're not serious" and even "it makes them more palatable than us," but all those arguments sound very similar to "you can't use xenopronouns because it makes other queer people look bad."

We're not taking a stance on it at the moment, since we don't have enough information, but the kind of language being used is deeply concerning. Words understandably have meaning, but much of the language of the plural community-- to our present knowledge-- is very different than it was ten years ago (with terms like "natural system" no longer or rarely in use now). We're not sure how this is different? If the language evolves, does that make it diluted? Or is there some active push against people who are plural, soulbonders, etc. that we're not aware of (and we mean a direct, malicious harm, not just kids learning new terms to help describe themselves).

Ultimately, at the moment, we're thinking that many of the "kin for fun" crowd are probably like... the kinds of genderfluid or genderqueer kids that grow up to find out they're trans? That seems to consider best with what we've seen so far. So is discouraging it (or outright being hostile) really a good idea, or appropriate?

Again, we don't know our stance yet, this is just a collection of thoughts. We'll probably crosspost this to DW, too. Open discussion but please don't be hostile or combative, we're not interested in an argument; just other views! 📚

Introduction Post?
Although we're not at all sure what to say, we wanted something else to be the first thing visitors here see. Things aren't all better yet, and maybe won't be, but we're not a generally negative group. Most of the time it's me or Sky fronting, or Albert, who's more of a realist than us.

I guess we should write up some sort of introduction? Not everyone is very cohesive right now so I'll just try to give a rundown!

I should probably start with myself first; I'm Twilight. I'm a caregiving facet that spends most of my time keeping the emotions of the collective in check, or at least managed... usually. I also deal with most people in real life, since I'm very good at making friends and people-pleasing. Usually I deal with old entitled white people, since we live in a relatively conservative town, and it's easy to offend them. I also keep men trying to flirt with us pacified until we can get help so nothing escalates. I'm the first to talk in new groups, to make sure we make a good impression, and really really like making friends!

Sky-Byte also likes people, but he's a lot more of a know-it-all, even if he doesn't mean to be. He's interested in most of the same things I am, like literature and writing, and spends a lot of time co-fronting with me. We usually log books together! He loves all kinds of different research and topics but can be a bit more pushy about them than me. He really loves aquariums!

Albert is a bit tougher to get to know. He's kind of cynical, but usually very realistic. He spends most of his time researching heavier topics, like psychology, virology, epidemiology, and genetics. He's one of those "hatch the chicken with no beak" types who thinks CRISPR is both a great thing and really easy to abuse. Albert likes intelligent conversation where he doesn't have to perform for people, since he's not very good at it. He doesn't have the same kind of emotional capacity me or Sky have, and sometimes comes off as mean because of it. Albert protects the collective from danger, like dangerous situations or people, and is extremely good at problemsolving. He was getting more talkative as the collective starts college, but not so much now...

Kuro archives things for us. He's the one who keeps all of our overflowing information on track, particularly with our memories. He's smart like Albert when it comes to trouble, but doesn't like to put effort into anything. He spends most of his time reading and sleeping. I don't think he likes people very much.

Maxwell is an entertainer! He doesn't talk often, and has only fronted a couple of times. He loves performing, nice clothes, and tricks! Unfortunately, he doesn't get much time to his hobbies.

Elktaur (Elk for short) fixes things that are broken. He doesn't like to do much else, and since the body has RA, he doesn't get much time to fix things. He does like hiking and walks on trails, though!

Megatron is a persecutor. I know how that can sound scary, but he's not all bad. Megatron took the brunt of a lot of the body's physical trauma growing up. He's every bit the gruff, jaded, angry old man he looks. He hates deeply and feels a lot, but ultimately he wants to protect us and others. Still, he's self-righteous and angry, so when he's fronting we isolate ourselves. None of us-- him included-- want to cause problems for the whole.

Julian likes Warhammer, Rimworld, and similar stuff. He puts together figures and wants to play, but hates people to much to bother (we're working on it!). Similar to Elk, Julian struggles when fronting because of our body's RA. Normally he just abandons fronting altogether at that point. Julian is our only member (that we're aware of!) that can't be talked to. He just doesn't want to interact with people, ever! Oh, he's also a completionist for video games, but I don't think that's exclusive to him.

Two-Brains is... a lot. He's hyper and tends to make bad dietary choices, and often makes the body sick. He doesn't really mean to be harmful, but living in a body with so many issues is hard for him. I think he needs more hobbies, because right now all he does is eat bad food and binge TV shows. We're... going to work on that, too.

David is our host, our collective whole. The gem with the facets reflecting different things. He's somewhat inspired by David 8, but isn't a 1:1 introject. He's the one that talks to our therapist, family, and friends, since we're not out to everyone. He's all of us; and our collection of real-life experience. He seeks community and companionship as much as I do, but has had issues "fitting in" all his life. There was a point in time where it wasn't much of a problem, but now that the world and net is so volitile, it's a real struggle to be... anyone, honestly. You're either a good or bad person, and there's no in-between. That's harder when you're trying to come to terms with yourself as a person, I think.

If it's confusing, I understand. We're all facets of one person. You don't have to worry about us not knowing who you are; we remember you! We're unified in that sense.

Anyway, there's ten (10) of us that we're currently aware of. We've got more information on our neocities, but not everyone's page is filled out. It's hard getting them all to work on something!

Thanks for reading. We're really hoping to be able to be ourselves safely, and Dreamwidth seemed like a better place than social media.

Warning: There are various things mentioned once or twice in no detail, such as pedophilia and rape. Skip the first paragraph if you can't even look at the words.

This is a personal account/experience journal. Take everything with a grain of salt and a lot of research, folks.
